Hi! I am Aaquib from Pakistan and I am studying currently in the 11th grade.
I think about the universe and nature. I am empathetic towards the feelings and emotions of human beings. This makes me write poetry.

1

You have shed
a thousand skins
to become the person
you are today.
And if you ever feel
o v e r w h e l m e d
by the many people
you once were,
Remember!
your bones have grown
but what makes them,
has never changed…!

Some loved for
Her honesty,
Some hated for
Her truth,
Neither a poet
Nor a writer
She was just
Simple woman
Who thought
Deeply
And felt
Too
much.

3

And then I
Realized
That to be
More alive
I had to be
Less afraid
So I did it
I lost my fear
And
Gained my whole
life.

Amanda Baker is a mom, wife, daughter, and therapist in Baltimore, Maryland. She has been writing since the age of seven and continues to write to not only elicit freedom, but to inspire and connect with others.

1

Shivering on the edge of cold.
A sunset on the brink of water.
I think I think too much.
But thoughts mean less than air.
Air we breathe.
Air we speak.
Air we feel when we meet.

2

Here we are
You and me
Confused as I’ll ever be
How you come so special
A daily thing
Is still a mystery

3

Hoping I can find you
Under some other sky.

4

You’re
Important
Enough
To live in my
Words.
Language means
Nothing
If not heard.

5

STAR SEED.
CHILD OF THE DEEP.
DEEP THINKER, FEELER, KNOWER.
WHERE WE BLOSSOM
IS WHERE WE BELIEVE.

6

SEE, YOU BROUGHT OUT THE BEST OF ME
A PART OF ME I’VE NEVER SEEN
YOU TOOK MY SOUL AND WIPED IT CLEAN
OUR LOVE WAS MADE FOR MOVIE SCREENS

Mother, friend,
I fell in love with poetry at a young age, when my aunt published her first poem.
Just want to be surrounded by vibes that set my soul on fire and for a beautiful soul to benefit from my writing flow. currently working on a self-help workbook to empower others. looking forward to my future and made amends with my past.

1

Sweet Coffee

Your scent awakens every pore of my body.

Your comfort soothes me and brings me to a new day full of robust hopes and dreams.

2

Sugar

Sugar, I pray that you overcome all this heartache this brang you and see a positive twist.

I pray you cherish every moment you spent with others.
I pray this hardship granted you this moment to cherish your life and see a brighter future.

3

Her bloodline is full of sensuality.

Rough around the edges yet vulnerable at heart.

Strong minded but soft and tender.

The glare of her eyes, hypnotizing.

She carries her problems on her back and walks amongst this universe like kryptonite.

She is LATINA.

4

Linen

Your crisp scent feels like an ocean breeze. Gentle sand between my toes. You’re a summer day full of positive vibes, and full of joy and goodness.

5

Wine

Memories last forever

-so when she thought of you she smiled.

Refreshing wine you were, crisp on a winter’s night. Full of a bold twist and turns. She consumed only the happiest moments of you.

I am a wife, mother, high school english teacher, small business owner, novelist, and poet. I believe humans were created to be creators, and creating is the highest form of awareness that massages our emotions. in the midst of my busy life, creating slows me down. I try to observe human experiences, nature, and minute details from different angles – turning them into an art of words.

1

Remember those nights
When we were young?
Oh, how we
Burned, burned
Burned
From the inside out-
Even the stars
Dimmed from our existence

2

Let’s drive to nowhere-Surround ourselves with no one-
We’ll talk about nothing
And sing those songs nobody knows

3

            Best Friend:

My person I spend
Hours
Telling them about something that only lasted a few
seconds

4

 When lovers touch –
I swear their blood tries to burst
Through its veins –
So jealous of the skin

5

   Please take me back
To when I could see your eyes
And hear your voice
Whenever I wanted-
I’ll block the sand from
Falling through the hourglass
Push the sun back down
Below the Horizon
And we’ll stay
Suspended
In that moment

6

Autumn-
The sun
Trades places
With the moon
Earlier each night
And its crisp breeze
Seizes dead colored leaves
That cling to the branch for one more day of life-
She thought about that dark wind-
Could it crawl into her window and sweep her away?
She’d go willingly-more than any leaf.

7

Have you considered-
Your written words just might
Change the world

8

I keep searching for you
Even though we’ve never met-
But you are the sunrise
And I am the sunset

9

Our nothingness
Is full of
A lot

10

I watched
As the river
Told me stories
And listened
As it stole
The colors
From the sky

11

Don’t restrict yourself
To only ceilings when your
Limit is the sky

12

It’s on nights like this-
I wish I’d melt into the
Woodwork of the walls

13

I wanted to live
Forever
In that moment
Even before I knew
There would
Never
Be one like it
Again

14

Water keeps moving
No matter what’s
In its way-
Even its obstacles
Are smoothed by
Its tenacity
To reach its
Destination

15

When he saw her crestfallen eyes
With vision obstructed by tears-
We spoke with actions, not words.
Unfolding her fingers
One by one-
He placed in her palm the only thing he had
-letting her stare out the window in silence.
Like the poor widow
Who gave her only two coins-
It  felt like nothing to him.
But it was everything to her.

16

I lost myself for a while-
Somewhere between
Exhaling all our dreams
Up to the treetops-
And every word
Being drowned by the synchronized beats of our hearts-
It’s when I finally felt
The grass growing
Between my toes that
I looked over at
What we’d made
And I swear we had
Set the sky on
F i r e

17

You can breathe so much life into those that need it most After your own breath is gone.

18

When I think about my gravestone
It won’t be the years that
matter-
It will be the dash between them-
And when I look at you, there’s no one I’d rather have by my side during
The dash

19

I keep
Coming back
To the only
Place I feel safe
Y O U

20

Subtle but vital-
Just as I don’t
Recognize
The breath
That’s essential
To my whole
Existence

Hi! I’m Danielle, Age 28, from Massachusetts. Writing has always been an outlet I’ve used to help process my feelings. Putting words on paper helps me cope with what’s going on around me. I find writing to be very therapeutic, so I love the way that Pyr + Wit combines poems and candles, My two favorite forms of self-care!

1

Times are tough , but do not fear!
we are strong,
we are one,
we will persevere!

Born in Peshawar, Pakistan, Fatima Ghafoor is a self proclaimed writer, painter, and a part-time debater. The poem you are reading is a little something she wrote in the hopes for a crumb of escapism, and offers you a bit of the same. “Much Love – Fatima”

1

The sun embraced the earth one last time

Staining the sky with streaks of crimson red

Sorrow, Passion, lit up the entire sky

Promising another meeting ahead.

2

I do not scrutinize myself
In mirrors anymore
Stumbling to figure out
How they look at me
For they have only glimpsed at the surface
While I have witnessed
Miracles having dived under the sea.

3

There’s a certain beauty around things that deceive

Relations that end, illusions blindly believed

Is it the lack of time that adds to its allure?

Or the stunning escapism, the truth delicately obscured.

4

Two tethered souls, miles apart
I still carry your memories in my heart
But this damned distance, its makes me wonder,
Do you do the same? Do you still remember?

5

I will roam and blindly explore
And in that blindness, find my home
Where I belong, a place to exist
As every other second of my life insists
On trying harder and exploring more
And someday maybe reaching a shore
But when I reach it, the journey mattered more
Because my scars defined my core.

6

Castles made of pretense, disguise delicately weaved in defence
In the midst of hypocrisy and
Everything humanity stands against
We’re all racing hearts and lost souls, just trying to make sense of cruel events.

7

I’m sure you will be the death of me
For every breath you take, steals mine away
Rebellious euphoria and that bold smile
The sure hands that could never lead me astray
Never be the one to beg for love
“There would be no need if it was real they say”
But love is known by those who know no bounds
Well aware of my fall,
I beg of you to stay.

HI! My name is Jai, and I write Poetry and prose inspired by my experiences of life, faith and love. i see myself as a little pencil in the hand of Grace, sending love letters to an aching world. i hope your heart finds what it needs in these words.

1

Even the darkest nights
eventually surrender to light
so hold on to your gentle heart
embrace those scars
and keep faith through the storms
for one day you’ll see
how grace turned your pain
into poetry

2

All I could ever need
Is infinitely contained within
A cosmic source of endless love
Just waiting to begin.

3

Every soul is poetry coiled within
A heart. When we allow this to
Unfurl and share it with the world,
That’s when we create art.

4

There’s nothing else in the world
That could feel close to the Lord’s grace
Than these gentle waves of love
That flow between us
For every time I hear your beating heart
It reminds me of the miracle that you are
And that this umbilical connection
Binds us in more ways than one
Your soul is a place where grace is spun
And where a lifetime of love
has only just begun

5

Be still my heart
And feel your own weight
For all it implies
Is that there’s great love
Contained inside.

6

Despite the aching solitude
The crippling fear
And the heartbreak
There is also an unshakable sense
Of love, unity,
Prayer and community
That rises from
The embers of this age
Until one day we find
That all that would be remembered
Of this time is that
No matter how hard things got
Your heart remained safe
In the hands of God.

7

Courage is one of the most
Beautiful things you can wear

8

Allow yourself to see the delicate beauty in the
Tenderest parts of your petal soft heart
And you’ll see how not all wars must
Be won by courageousness alone.
Some days we will find that our
greatest strength lies in
Our ability to see that
Love resided within the
core of our deepest
vulnerabilities.

9

Autumn days are for watching
The way auburn leaves fall and
Kiss the earth to show
That the trees have made peace
With letting go

10

Today I saw the face of courage;
The way grace was held in place of pain
And how the heavy boulders placed upon
the shoulders of the brave
Were graciously received and gently
Weaved piece by piece into
A majestic garland which rested
Upon their heart, serving only
To further enhance their beauty
What a true blessing it is to
Come to know such courageousness
And to see the face of God
In the eyes of those
That carry a selfless
grace

11

Just. Breathe.
Breathe in trust
Breathe out doubt.
Breathe in trust
Breathe out doubt.
Breathe in trust
Breathe out doubt.
Repeat until you can
Say with conviction.
“My Love, I wholeheartedly trust in Your plan,
And I can understand that
Everything you do for me
Will only serve to
Set me free.”

12

There’s something to be said
About sitting and listening
To the sound of your breath
Within quietness
For in the silence we hear all the
Unspoken truths loud and clear;
The whisper of the breeze.
The heartbeat of the trees
And within these humble
Messengers of peace,
Another voice so gentle
That the sentimental mind
Mistakes it time and time again
For the anonymity of peace
Yet in reality it’s the
Lord of our heart
Who speaks

13

Maybe it’s okay just
To take it one
Step
At
A
Time
With the faith that
Each step will lead me
Exactly where
I need to
be

14

Dear one, be gentle on your heart;
For even the darkest parts are sacred
And that shade you think pervades
Your soul is only God’s way
Of protecting you from
The scorching ways of disdain
So slow down, take a breath
And allow your heart to rest within
These words of affirmation;
His love is the only place
My heart will seek validation.

15

You’re enchanted by the stars,
Enraptured by the moon
And the vast expanse of seas and skies
Cause your heart to swoon
Dear one I wish you’d see
There’s more than meets the eye
And if you gaze upon your heart awhile
You’ll see a universe inside.

1

Face your fears
So that
Your fears don’t
Phase you

2

False love
Must die a
True death,
So that
True love
May never die

3

She dances to the
Beat of her own drum
Because everyone else
Has no rhythm
No melody
And no harmony

4

Adults are just
Kids who
Lost their
superpowers

5

She only made time
For tea
And the people who
Rhymed with her
Favourite emotions

6

Kick up the ashes
Darling
There’s some flame
Left in you
You’ll see .

7

Love pulls no punches,
Love does not let up.
It doesn’t play dirty
Or believe in
Tricks or games;
But you never
See it coming either,
And that, my friends,
I will walk into happily, everytime.

8

She is going to
Get wild,
And she is going to
Get weird,
And best of all,
She is going to get
Wondrous,
So you better
Get comfortable
Or get out of her way.

9

When i met you
I didn’t know where to
look,
Your eyes were piercing,
Your smile disarming,
Your skin radiant,
And the sound of your
voice
Was enough to make
my heart bleed through
my skin,
Tattooing it with a
Reminder
That I had been waiting
For someone
Who could kill my
loneliness.

10

When I’m with her
Even my demons
Dress up
For dinner
And behave.

11

Go ahead,
Steal her thunder,
But its her
Lightening
You better watch out for.

12

First I makes the
Mistakes
Then I has the coffee

13

We are love
On lock-down,
With no end
In sight
And I’ve never
Felt more
Safe,
Here,
Quarantined
In your
Sweet embrace.

14

My whole life
People have been calling
Me weird,
But the reality is
My version of normal
Is just better
Than theirs.

15

She was a happy
Little vandal
Smashing opinions
And setting fire
To your
heart.

16

Yes,
It’s true.
She has a
Heart of gold,
But she mined
For it
All on her own
And she will
Decide who she
Shares its beauty with.

1

Calm are the mornings
We spend boiled around
Each other’s needs,
Tangles arteries
Carrying our fears away.
Intrepid is my heart
that beats for itself
But chooses,
Every day,
Without question,
To sync up with yours,
Anyway.

2

These sloppy weekend mornings,
Make-up smeared, clothes strewn,
Hungover from drinking you in
All night.
My stomach churns as I roll over
To find that the dent
In the mattress is all that’s
Left of you.
This whiskey tastes sour when
Hair of the dog looks more like
Holding you.

3

The fire is dying
I throw loving nights
Spend learning you
Into the flames
Those memories make
The best kindling
There was a time
That our love wasn’t so combustible
It consisted of
Magnesium ees
Steadying my heart
And questions you only ask
When you already know
The answer
(Do you love me?
Am I irrevocably yours?)
Or I guess I should say
When you think
You know the answers.

4

If you’ve ever been told
You can’t do something,
Then you understand
What I mean
When I say
That the most relentless winds
Don’t blow a forest fire out-
They strengthen it.
